Thailand’s economy grew much slower than expected in the third quarter of 2023. According to the country’s National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), GDP expanded by just 1.5 per cent over the three-month period, significantly lower than the 2.4 per cent growth estimated by Reuters. TPI Polene ’s sales performance in the 9M23 was 10 per cent lower YoY to THB33,528m (US$945.5m), while EBITDA generated was down 27 per cent YoY to THB8127m. Siam Cement puts chemicals IPO on hold

Thailand-based Siam Cement has announced that it is postponing the initial public offering (IPO) of its SCG Chemicals business. According to Reuters News, the decision is due to unfavourable market conditions but the company plans to proceed with the IPO once conditions improve. The Siam Cement Public Co Ltd (SCG) reported a 14 per cent drop in sales revenue to THB122,190m (US$3510.1m) in the 4Q22 when compare with the 4Q21. The company’s EBITDA fell by 53 per cent YoY to THB10,122m while profit was down by 98 per cent YoY to THB157m.    The results were affected by lower chemicals product prices and volume driven by softer demand. US-based Sublime Systems has raised US$40m to develop new technology to produce low-carbon cement. The Borneo-based Sarawak Economic Development Corp (SEDC) and the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) are planning to create a joint venture to import cement from Thailand to address the supply shortage in the state of Sarawak.
