Cement sold through Iran's mercantile exchange rises

The operations manager of the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME), Abbas Yaghoubi, has provided an update regarding the offering of all the country's cement via the IME, according to Trend News. Currently, 56 companies out of 78 cement companies have been admitted to offer their products through the IME, but further companies are expected to also accept and submit documents. Iran cement production capacity tops 88Mta in FY20-21

Iran’s nominal cement production capacity totalled 88Mta in FY20-21, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade (MIMT).  Meanwhile, total cement production over the last year was 69.3Mt, of which 15Mt was exported to Iraq, Afghanistan and some Southeast Asian countries and 64Mt was used locally, stated MIMT.  More than 70 cement factories were operational in Iran, which produced 27 types of cement, of which Type II and V are the most popular.

The Iranian cement market consumed 5.78Mt of cement in June 2021, remaining level with the 5.78Mt reported in May. This demand was entirely met by local cement production, which reached 6.02Mt in June while clinker production stood at 6.75Mt. Iranian cement consumption in May 2021 reached 5.78Mt. This represents a 28.4 per cent MoM increase from 4.5Mt in April 2021. In addition to domestic deliveries, producers exported 0.34Mt of cement, down 26.1 per cent MoM, and 0.79Mt of clinker, up 3.9 per cent MoM. Iran’s largest cement line at Abyek Cement Complex was put into operation on Tuesday, according to the Tehran Times. Iran’s cement market contracted by 24 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in April 2021, according to the Iranian Cement Association. In April 2020 the country’s demand reached 5.91Mt. Iranian cement plants produced 68.3Mt of cement in 2020, according to the Cement Industry Employers’ Association. This represents a capacity utilisation rate of 78.5 per cent. The association expects output in 2021 to rise to more than 70Mt.

Iran's cement exports fall 24% YoY
