Taiheiyo Cement cuts domestic output

Taiheiyo Cement Corp. has lowered domestic cement output because of rising production costs stemming from a jump in prices of coal, the main fuel used in making cement. Coupled with a price hike of 300 yen per ton from April shipments, the firm seeks to improve its cost structure by drawing down inventory through the output reduction. Siam City Cement PCL, Thailand’s second largest cement producer, Friday reported flat earnings growth in the second quarter as rising sales costs offset higher revenue. During the April to June period, its net profit was 950.2 million baht ($1=THB41.502), or THB3.92 a share, compared with THB953.9 million, or THB3.82 a share, a year ago. The result was slightly lower than expected. Siam City Securities forecast Siam City Cement to report a net profit in the second quarter of THB997 million. ...

Cemex Venezuela, subsidiary of the Mexican cement company Cemex, had a net profit of Bs$23.812bil (US$12.4m) in the first half of 2004 (Jan-Jun), recovering from losses of Bs$8.916bil (US$5.6m) posted in the same period of 2003.

The Moscow Inteco group, incorporating almost 30 companies, continues to buy cement assets.  The company has now bought controlling stakes in two companies, Ulyanovsk Cement and Zhigulevsk Construction Materials in the volga region. In 1H2004 Angarskcement produced 295,936t of cement, up 15% y-o-y. In the first six months of 2004 303,210 tons of cement was sold, up 14% y-o-y. The 2004 sales target is 715,000t of cement. In 2005 the figure is expected to stand at 730,000t, local news sources said  

Saudi Eastern Province Cement Q1

The cement output of Saudi cement producer Saudi Eastern Province Cement Company (EPC) decreased to 589,000t in the first three months of 2004 from 649,000t in the corresponding period of 2003. Clinker output was 494,000t, compared to 521,000t. Local cement sales stood at 419,000t, against 511,000t, while cement exports decreased to 87,000t from 108,000t. The total output of Saudi Arabia’s eight cement companies rose to 6.1Mt from 5.6Mt in that same first quarter period in 2004/2003. ...
