Cementos Yura sees advance in 2Q domestic and export sales

Cementos Yura, Peru, increased domestic cement dispatches by 12 per cent YoY in the 2Q22. In addition, export sales advanced by 22 per cent YoY in the 2Q22 on the back of higher exports to Chile. The company increased its clinker production in the 2Q22 by 35.8 per cent when compared to the year-ago period as cement demand increased and its inventory recovered.

UNACEM sees contracting 2Q profit margin

Peru-based UNACEM reported a consolidated net profit of PEN110.8m (US$26.7m), up 25.8 per cent YoY, as the company’s revenues increased and interest expenses fell. However, the cost of sales was higher than expected, impacting YoY profit margins. Adbri Ltd reported that the upgrade of its Kwinana cement plant in Western Australia, originally budgeted at AUD199m (US$137.3m), is likely to see a 15 per cent hike in costs, taking into account inflationary and supply chain pressures. Saudi cement producer, Umm Al-Qura Cement Co has posted a 55 per cent fall in net profit during the 1H22 owing to lower cement sales, compared to the 1H21. India’s Shiva Cement has reported turnover for FY2021-22 of INR34.65m (US$433,491), down 88 per cent YoY, primarily due to the suspension of plant operations on the back of ongoing project activity. Brazil’s antitrust regulator CADE has given its approval to steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional’s (CSN) acquisition of Holcim’s local cement business.
