Taiwan Cement plans to increase alternative fuel use

Taiwan Cement Corp has announced plans to work with Beijing Orient Landscape & Environment Co Ltd to develop its involvement in the Chinese waste market, according to the Taipei Times. Peru’s Unacem swings into profit in 4Q17

Unión Andina de Cementos reported a profit of PEN34.5m (US$10.7m) in the 4Q17. The result, which is a marked improvement when compared with the loss of PEN42.3m in the same period of the previous year, was driven by the progress of public and private works. The Peruvian producer’s billed cement shipments edged up to PEN1789.2m in 4Q17. Cost of sales during the quarter rose to PEN302.8m while financial expenses advanced to PEN60m.

Qassim Cement sees 38% drop in profit

Saudi Arabia’s Qassim reported a 26.5 per cent YoY fall in sales to SAR626m in 2017 from SAR852m. Net profit fell 37.8 per cent from SAR405.1m in 2016 to SAR251.8m one year later.  Qassim Cement runs a single 4.4Mta plant with two kiln lines in Buraydah, central Saudi Arabia. The company had a 7.4 per cent market share in 2016, according to The Global Cement Report, 12th Edition.

Jammu and Kashmir Cements’ Khrew plant shut due to coal shortage

The Khrew plant of Jammu and Kashmir Cements Ltd was shut for nine days as a result of a coal shortage. The shutdown occurred between 14-22 January and is reported to have cost the company at least INR60m (US$ 943,879) . Usually the cement producer stores 1.52Mt of coal, procured on advance payment from Kolkata. Vietnam’s VVMI La Hien profit slips 1% in 2017

VVMI La Hien Cement JSC reported a one per cent YoY decrease in its net profit to VND27.98bn (US$1.23m) in 2017. The company’s revenue fell one per cent YoY to VND649.46bn in 2017. In 4Q17 the Vietnamese cement producer saw a a more than two-fold rise of its net profit to VND18.37bn and a 12.3 per cent increase of its net revenue to VND221.79bn.

Power Cement announces progress of expansion

Power Cement Limited has released a progress report regarding its brownfield project in Nooriabad, for the quarter ending 31 December 2017. The expansion is expected to increase plant capacity by 2.5Mta to 3.4Mta, at an estimated cost of PKR24.9bn (US$224.8m). The company plans to commission the new capacity by the last quarter of FY19, ending 30 June 2019. Ecebol Oruro plant ready for trial in September

Empresa Pública Cementos de Bolivia (Ecebol)’s plant in Caracollo, Oruro, is expected to be ready for its trial run in September, according to the country’s Minister of Productive Development and Plural Economy, Eugenio Rojas. "The cement plant of Oruro de Caracollo we will do the test in September, at the end of the year we would be starting to operate or in the last case in 2019,” he said.

Indocement to commission terminal

Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa expects to complete construction of its new cement terminal in Palembang in the first quarter of 2018, according to Indonesia Investments. The terminal will have a 1Mta capacity once the project is commissioned in March. Lipetskcement, part of the Eurocement Group, produced 684,000t of cement in 2017, representing a rise of 6.8 per cent YoY, and 600,000t of clinker, a YoY increase of 16.1 per cent.
