PT Semen Indonesia's President Director, Rizkan Chandra, is confident that Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo will issue an environmental permit for the construction of the company's cement plant in Rembang, Central Java province. USA: Ecocem's Vallejo mill project hits City Hall opposition

A US local authority has formally opposed Ecocem’s plans for a EUR45m mill project in Vallejo. Orcem Americas, a subsidiary of Irish cement firm Ecocem, wants to construct a grinding mill close to San Francisco, on the site of an old flour mill on Vallejo’s waterfront, but residents fear its environmental impact. HeidelbergCement saw its cement volumes rise by 50 per cent YoY to 30.8Mt from 20.5Mt in the 4Q16, according to a company statement. Cementir's Board of Directors reported its preliminary consolidated results for 2016, which saw group sales and services reach EUR1027.6m, up compared to EUR969m in 2015. Siam City Cement (SCC) reported a 2016 net profit of THB3.9bn (US$111.45m), down 14.5 per cent YoY due to difficult trading conditions in Thailand. PCC and AfriSam in merger talks

PPC is in merger talks with its nearest competitor, AfriSam Group, seeking to overcome valuation disagreements that prevented the completion of previous tie-up efforts, according to Reuters. USA: Cemex Fairborn plant and terminal is sold to Eagle Materials

Cemex has announced that one of its subsidiaries in the US has closed the divestment of its Fairborn (OH) cement plant and cement terminal in Columbus (OH) to a subsidiary of Eagle Materials Inc for around US$400m. The proceeds obtained from this transaction will be used mainly for debt reduction and for general corporate purposes. Bank of America Merrill Lynch acted as financial advisor to Cemex in this transaction.

ANCAP to shed 200 jobs during its restructuring

While ANCAP is expected to hold onto its three cement units, the restructuring of the company will see the dismissal of 200 personnel. Staff have received the “commitment” from the company’s general manager, Ignacio Horvath, and the Portland Division Manager, Fernando Acuña, that the plants of Paysandú and Minas as well as the Manga distribution centre will remain open. In the past decade the Uruguayan cement producer has reported  losses of US$200m.

Bolivia: President opens 2000tpd Itacamba plant

President Evo Morales of Bolivia opened the first integrated cement plant in Itacamba at the weekend, in the department of Santa Cruz. Following an investment of US$220m, the Itacamba Cimento SA 2000tpd cement plant in Yacuses has started commercial production to reduce the country's reliance on imports. The works will guarantee the supply of cement for projects in Santa Cruz and Beni, with plans to expand deliveries to Tarija. Gebr Pfeiffer provided a MPS 3750 B raw mill for this project....
