Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico slipped to 9.4Mt in September 2020, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The largest consuming US states were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and New York, which accounted for 37 per cent of shipments. Cement dispatches in Peru rose 15.6 per cent YoY in November 2020 to 1.188Mt from 1.028Mt in November 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Of the total, 1.092Mt were supplied by Asocem members. Sri Lanka sees production up 9% in 9M20

Sri Lanka has seen domestic cement production rise 28.7 per cent YoY to 375,000t in September. In August production was up by 17.4 per cent YoY to 392,000t. Overall, cement production increased 8.5 per cent to 2.82Mt in the first nine months of 2020, compared to 2.6Mt in the same period of last year. Cement sales in Saudi Arabia increased 16.5 per cent YoY to 4.75Mt in November 2020, driven by the Ministry of Housing’s programmes, according to NCB Capital Co. Uzbekistan sees 3% rise in production

Uzbekistan produced 8.8Mt of cement in the first 10 months of the 2020, up 2.6 per cent compared to the year-ago period. The largest volumes of cement were produced in the Tashkent region (46.7 per cent), followed by Navoi region (35.1 per cent) and Fergana region (12.8 per cent). The value of cement exported from Uzbekistan in the January-October period amounted to US$27.6m. Meanwhile, the value of cement imports reached US$105.5m.

Cement demand in Argentina surged 25.1 per cent YoY and edged up two per cent MoM to 1,091,549t in November 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.  The market was entirely supplied by domestic output. Cement dispatches in Colombia increased 5.2 per cent YoY to 1.169Mt in October 2020 when compared with 1.111Mt delivered in October 2019, according to the national statistics agency, DANE. Vietnam is estimated to have produced 90.3Mt of cement in the first 11 months of 2020, up 3.4 per cent YoY, according to data from the country’s General Statistics Office. In November, cement output is projected to have risen 4.6 per cent YoY to 9.1Mt. Cement production is expected to recover from this week as clinker supply via the Paraguay River is returning to normal this week, reports Hoy. This will enable Industria Nacional del Cemento to increase cement production to more than 30,000 bags/day as the company’s clinker supply is more efficient. "Clinker production moves through the river and the land efficiency is not the same," said Ernesto Benítez, INC president, mentioning that production is more significant using river transport.
