Turkey sees 30% decline in cement sales for the 11M19

Turkey’s cement sales fell 30 per cent YoY in the first 11 months of 2019, according to the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TÇMB). The result has been linked to a slowdown in the housing market, with sales declining seven per cent YoY to 1.15m units in the 11M19. Cement production increased 2.8 per cent YoY in November 2019 to 5.3Mt, with house sales also advancing 54 per cent YoY during the same period.

In 2019 total domestic cement production in Belarus increased 4.6 per cent YoY to 4.7Mt. Meanwhile, the country also imported 502,800t of cement worth more than US$28m, according to the National Statistical Committee. Sagar Cements reports 2% increase in production for January

India’s Sagar Cements has reported a 1.7 per cent YoY increase in standalone cement production for January 2020, rising to 228,455Mt from 224,607Mt in the year-ago period. Consolidated cement production improved 4.7 per cent to 316,657Mt from 302,558Mt. However, the company’s standalone cement sales were down three per cent to 224,271Mt from 231,208Mt in January 2019. Consolidated cement sales also fell 1.6 per cent YoY to 315,309Mt from 320,410Mt.

Colombian cement market expands 11% in December

Colombian grey cement dispatches advanced 10.9 per cent to 1.079Mt in December 2019 from 0.973Mt a year earlier, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Tunisia-based Carthage Cement saw its total revenues increase by five per cent to TND249.6m (US$4.9m) from TND238.2m in 2019. Cement production rose 17 per cent YoY to 1.478Mt (2018: 1.263Mt). Poland’s Association of Cement Producers estimates that the production of cement in 2019 rose by around one per cent YoY to 19Mt. Azerbaijan produced around 3.4Mt of cement during 2019, a 1.4 per cent decrease compared to the previous year, according to the State Statistics Committee. Tajikistan produced 4.2Mt of cement in 2019, an increase of 400,000t compared to the previous year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT). The country’s cement exports also rose by around 150,000t to 1.546Mt. Tajikistan reportedly earned US$68.1m from its cement export activities in 2019. Puerto Rican cement sales in 2019 declined 5.6 per cent to 569,485t in 2019 when compared with 2019, according to Sin Comillas. In 2018 sales had surged 38.9 per cent YoY as construction activity skyrocketed after Hurricane Maria with the arrival of government funds for reconstruction. However, following the rebound, economic activity fell in 2019. Local cement production decreased 6.7 per cent YoY to 518,864t. In 2018 production had increased by 44.6 per cent, the first rise since 2012.
