Through intelligent networking of its plant logistics control with a planning system that includes GPS location and telematics, German cement producer Rohrdorfer Zement is able to fully integrate all components of its cement delivery process. The resultant increased utilisation of its vehicles helps the company to lower its CO2 emissions. Solutions provider OAS AG tracks the journey.

Rohrdorfer Zement recognised that logistical challenges can only be met through effective planning, therefore, at the end of 2010, its management set the following targets:
• Euro 5 trucks would exclusively handle the firm’s entire distribution logistics
• the development of scheduling software in combination with GPS positioning
• the introduction of telemetry-based vehicle control.

These changes would enable Rohrdorfer Zement to deliver an improved customer service, make its processes more transparent, increase utilisation rates and reduce ‘empty’ miles.
