As new kiln capacity figures for 2012 indicate signs of a recovery, ICR takes a look a new capacity and upgrades in Africa and the Middle East in this second part of its biannual new project review.

Angola
The Cimenfort cement plant was inaugurated in August 2012 in the Catumbela Industrial Growth Point (PDIC), central Benguela province, during a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Geology, Mining and Industry, Joaquim Duarte David. Estimated to have cost US$100m, the plant is a Genea Group Angola investment which took four years to construct and features modern technology from Japan, Brazil and China. According to the factory’s director general, Paul Marcius Ang, the works will initially produce 0.72Mta of cement, before raising production to 1Mta in the second phase.
