Event preview: XXX FICEM Technical Congress

The XXX FICEM Technical Congress is being held at the Delfines Hotel and Casino in Lima, Peru, during 2-4 September 2013.

FICEM is the Inter-American Cement Federation, an independent institution, that organises and hosts this annual international congress. This year's meeting is expected to attract cement producers and equipment suppliers from more than 25 countries, drawing delegates from FICEM’s large membership, which includes some 240 cement plants with a  capacity of 152Mta.

The aim of the FICEM congress is to strengthen its membership and help drive regional development. The meeting includes a stimulating programme comprising technical presentations, an international exhibition featuring global and regional equipment suppliers, and a supporting spouse programme.

Peru: a market on the move...

Peru is an important cement market for Latin America, with demand on the rise and cement capacity now recorded at 14.3Mta. Unacem SA, which was created last year from the merger of Cementos Lima and Cementos Andino, is the market leader. Cementos Yura is more prominent in the south and Cementos Pacasmayo and Caliza Cementos Inca make up the existing manufacturing base.

Ongoing expansion work is very much the theme for Cementos Pacasmayo with a new 1.6Mta plant at Piura due to come on-stream in 2015. Meanwhile, Chile’s Cementos Bío Bío is also looking at the possibility of constructing a 0.75Mta cement works in Peru.
