Colombia has been experiencing important economic growth over the past few years leading to increased cement demand for housing, commercial and infrastructure projects. To meet these advances in consumption and, at the same time, adapt to the highest environmental standards, the country’s leading cement producer, Cementos Argos, is revamping its strategically-located Rioclaro plant with completion on-track for year-end. By Cementos Argos, Colombia.

Cementos Argos’ Rioclaro works is situated in Colombia’s central region. The main objective of the modernisation project is to improve supplies to key local markets including Bogotá, Medellin and the so-called Eje Cafetero (Coffee Belt), which together account for close to half of domestic cement consumption.

The US$100m investment will see clinker and cement capacities at Rioclaro rise to 4000tpd and 4245tpd, respectively.
