As the cement production process becomes more aware of the fuels it burns and the impact on the environment, the cement shipping sector is also considering more sustainable solutions for moving cement across the globe. By Daniel Ulestig, KGJ Cement, Singapore.

JT Cement, a joint-venture between KGJ Cement AS (Norway) and Erik Thun AB (Sweden), has launched the world’s first liquified natural gas (LNG)/marine gas oil (MGO) dual-fuel cement carriers.

The joint-venture partners have a long history in transporting cement and developing innovative solutions. As an independent ship owner, JT Cement will mainly contract the vessels to the cement industry, including cement manufacturers and traders.
