Shree Cement Ltd (SCL) has expanded rapidly over the last decade, from just 5Mt in 2007 to 29.3Mt cement capacity in 2017, making it the third-largest cement producer in India, after UltraTech and LafargeHolcim. Its cement plants are situated in the north of India with over half the capacity located in its home state of Rajasthan, where it is the market leader. ICR visited SCL’s Bulandshahr grinding works, where modern technology enables the company to meet the demand of India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh.

Since 2015 SCL has served the large Delhi market and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, from a 2Mta grinding plant at Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr. The plant manufactures mainly pozzolana Portland cement (PPC), sourcing its fly ash (pond ash) from the NTPC Dadri Power Plant, located 20km from the grinding station.
