The South American region (excluding Brazil) has many cement producers not only investing in new production lines in their domestic markets but also looking to build capacity to advance exports. ICR provides a round-up of recent activity in the region and looks at the reasons for increases in cement demand and production capacity.

South America is one of the smaller cement-producing regions in the world with Colombia, Peru and Argentina as the area’s heavyweights, not including Brazil which was covered in ICR’s July issue (see Table 1). Venezuela is a distinct market in that it is unlike the others with its complete state control of the cement industry, although Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador and Uruguay also have state-run entities operating in their markets.
