China’s policy makers have set ambitious targets to lower the domestic cement industry’s

energy intensity and emissions to the atmosphere by 2020

With a total cement production of 2.3bnt in 2017, China’s cement industry is the largest in the world and its operating conditions account for a sizeable slice of the national total in terms of energy use and emissions into the environment. The industry’s energy consumption accounts for around five per cent of the China’s total energy demand. In 2015 the sector generated dust and NOx emissions to the tune of 5.4 and 9.2 per cent of the national total, respectively.
