Akkord Sement’s Gazakh cement plant in Azerbaijan is undergoing a EUR10m expansion project, raising capacity to 1.4Mta. The project includes the installation of a new bag filter, which will result in dust emissions falling from 50mg/m3 to 10mg/m3. As part of its commitment to the environment and circular economy, the plant uses volcanic ash to reduce its clinker requirement, employs iron waste to lower its reliance on natural iron ore, and takes waste lime from a neighbouring lime plant. Its water supply is also made available to local communities as well as the plant providing employment for more than 650 local residents.
The ICR Cement Industry Awards 2019 will be honoured at the forthcoming Cemtech Europe conference, taking place at the InterContinental Berlin, Germany, on 1-2 October 2019.
