Aslan Cement Plant

OYAK Çimento is Turkey’s leading cement producer. Its Aslan Cement Plant is located in Darıca, approximately 60km east of Istanbul. Founded in 1910, today the plant has a cement production capacity of 2Mta with a single kiln line.

In 2020 the line was upgraded by FLSmidth, including the installation of a HotDisc© reactor. Raw material is prepared by an FLS OK-R type vertical mill while solid fossil fuel is prepared using a vertical Loesche LM-20.2 type coal mill. The finish grinding section has two ball mills, both equipped with roller press units. The plant also has nine bulk loading stations, two automated packing lines, including truck loading systems by Haver-Boecker, and its own port facilities capable of handling up to 60,000t in shipping capacity, offering significant logistics flexibility.

Another feature of the plant is its 7.5MW waste heat recovery power plant, supplied by Mitsubishi-STEC in 2014. The company has been investing heavily in alternative fuels preparation, dosing, feeding, and burning systems. The plant now has seven shredders preparing over 200,000tpa of alternative fuels (AF), giving the plant a more than 60 per cent thermal substitution rate (TSR). To align with the latest emissions standards, a selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) system has also been in use since 2008.

A member of the Cement Industry Employers’ Association (ÇEİS), the Aslan plant is also home to a unique safety training centre, established and operated by ÇEİS since 2017. The centre provides around 1250 employees each year with training on occupational health and safety, psychosocial risks, technical and management issues, along with equipment demonstrations, including elevators, screw conveyors, etc. A virtual reality training module is also available.
