Cemtech Europe 2024 - plant tour of Cemex Polska's Chelm plant

Delegates attending Cemtech Europe 2024 will have the opportunity to visit Cemex Polska's cement plant in Chelm, which has a cement production capacity of 1.8Mta and a clinker capacity of 1.6Mta. The plant is an alternative fuels pioneer, operating with an AF substitution rate of 96 per cent – making it a world leader.

Cemex Polska is among Poland's leading producers of cement, ready-mixed concrete and aggregates. The company operates two cement plants, a grinding plant, 34 ready-mixed concrete plants and five aggregate quarries. Chelm cement plant is located in the Lublin province in eastern Poland. The plant first opened in 1960 before becoming part of the Cemex group in 2005.

Since then it has undergone numerous upgrade projects, including the modernisation of its cement mills, clinker cooler and alternative fuel installations, the construction of clinker silos and the recent modernisation of the mining and transport systems at its chalk quarry.

June 2024 saw cement production at the plant since 1960 exceed 100Mt. It is also one of the first cement plants in Poland to invest in heat recovery from alternative fuels and is currently the leader in Poland in terms of their usage with alternative fuels accounting for over 96 per cent of the energy needed for the plant's clinker production. Chelm was also the first plant in Poland to install an RDF dryer, which also comprises an air separator and precise dosing system.
