Despite the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and low-income housing programmes, poor cement demand caused a 3.3 per cent YoY contraction in Indonesian cement sales in September 2016. According to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI), domestic sales fell to 5.64Mt with a decline being seen in all regions except Sulawesi (+6.8 per cent) and Maluku and Papua (+10 per cent). These latest figures take total sales for January-September to 44.71Mt, up 2.95 per cent compared to the same period last year.
