Dangote Cement - May 2018


On 16 May, Deep Kamara, country manager of Dangote Cement in Ethiopia, was shot dead alongside his secretary Beakal Alelegu and his driver Tsegaye Gidey. The group was travelling back to Addis Ababa after visiting the company’s Ethiopian plant located 85km west of the capital. According to local press reports, seven people have been arrested following the incident, including one suspect who is believed to be a driver for Dangote.

The Ethiopian plant, which opened in June 2015, has a production capacity of 2.5Mta. A second works had been planned by Dangote but was suspended when dozens of trucks and heavy-duty machinery belonging to Dangote were burned amidst public riots.
