Dangote Cement - August 2018

Dangote Cement has increased its output in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 2500tpd to 5000tpd in response to a shortage of cement. Routine maintenance by a number of factories has led to a lack of product, pushing retail cement prices up from TZS12,000 (US$5.25)/50kg bag to TZS22,000 in recent weeks, according to local press reports. However, Jaget Rathee, country manager at Dangote Cement, was quick to assure that despite the shortage, Dangote would not be raising its prices. "The price will remain the same. We can’t take the shortage as an advantage for generating super profits," he said.
