PPC - April 2019

Workers at PPC’s 1Mta grinding plant in Hercules, near Pretoria, South Africa, staged a strike earlier this month over wages.

According to news reports, the strike action concerned the company’s refusal to bargain over wage increases. The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is reportedly seeking a wage increase of 12 per cent for all workers, a housing allowance of ZAR1500 (US$104.60) and a transport allowance of ZAR750 for shift workers, backdated to 1 October 2018.
