HeidelbergCement - October 2019

HeidelbergCement’s North American subsidiary, Lehigh Hanson Inc, has entered into an agreement with Giant Cement to acquire its Keystone cement plant in Bath, Pennsylvania. The 1.1Mta plant supplies the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York markets with bulk and bagged products. “With its modernised kiln, healthy customer base and large limestone reserves, the Keystone cement plant is an excellent strategic fit for HeidelbergCement in North America and an important step in strengthening our cement footprint in this key market,” said Dr Bernd Scheifele, chairman, HeidelbergCement.

Meanwhile, HeidelbergCement is believed to have expressed an interest in acquiring India’s Emami Cement, submitting bids through HeidelbergCement India. Emami Cement operates a 2.5Mta integrated plant in Chhattisgarh, a 2.5Mta grinding works in West Bengal and a 0.6Mta grinding unit in Bihar. Other companies reportedly interested in the sale include Nuvoco Vistas Corp, Shree Cement, Dalmia Bharat and LafargeHolcim.
