Dear NG,
Most probably you would have found a solution of high dust content in TAD till now. However, if not, In support of Dr Michael Clark's reply to your problem to make efforts in prevention of this dust, I would like to share my experience with you. There is normally an a restriction hanged in mid of dust trap roof e.g., an arch etc. which cause to slow down the velocity of dust laden air coming out of cooler. This restriction, if built in proper length, proves very helpful in settling the suspended dust particles. If such arrangement is there in your dust trap, please check it for wear. If refractory bricks installed on this arch / restricter are worn by >50%, the replacement of the bricks could reduce the dust contents in TAD considerably.

Hai,
Friend. Our kiln is also SLC (FLS). We too have the same
problem. But we are not emptying out every shift.
What we have done is, we have started
"AIR LANCING" IN THE ELBOW CONNECTED
TO TA DUCT. THE PRESSURE TO BE MAINTAINED,
IS AROUND 6 BAR. THIS WE ARE DOING 3 HRS PER
SHIFT. THIS HAS REALLY WORKED FOR US.
WE WILL EMPTY OUR DUST WHEN OUR KILN TRIPS
OR KILN IS STOPPED FOR LONG SHUTDOWN.
YOU CAN TRY THIS.
Dear All ,
NG in his post said that the dust is "Due to heavy dust loading in the cooler gases" , i would like to ask :
Is the cooling zone supposed to be dusty ?
If so , would it be logic to think first that the proplem is in controling the Kiln Hood pressure , (lowering the cooler fans speed or increasing the ID fan speed or increasing the Hood Space ) ? would it be right to think that way ?
Regards
Hazem
1. If dust is generated it cannot be easily controlled. If it does not come with the Tertiary air, it will go to the kiln or to the cooler ESP. since u do not have to trap, Try to balance S/A to bring down the dust.
since it is better to handle the dust in the cooler vent, try to increase Tertiary take off size to bring down the dust carry over and also see if the cooler under grate compartment can be modified to mainatin the specific air loading required for the increased production.
