natural gas and heavy oil
Dear all,
i would like to know which type of these 2 fuels ( natural gas - heavy oil ) has the higher calorific value and what is the reason , with consederation the units Nm3 for Natural gas and Kg for heavy oil

Typical calorific value of heavy oil would be 40,000 kJ/kg. Typical calorific value for natural gas would be 37 kJ/Nm3.

In my files I found these examples:
fuel oil
=====
40.1 MJ/kg (LHV),
2.90 MJ/kg(combustion products),
1970°C (flame temperature , air 25°C)
natural gas
=========
47.7 MJ/kg (LHV),
2.73 MJ/kg(combustion products),
1885°C (flame temperature , air 25°C)
It can be seen that the heat value expressed with respect to the mass of fuel is higher for natural gas than for heavy fuel oil.
However, the heat value expressed with respect to the mass of combustion products is lower for natural gas than for heavy fuel oil.
The (adiabatic) flame temperature is also lower for natural gas than for heavy fuel oil.
