I think mass spectrometry might be used.

Mass Spectrometry. Very exhaustive. Good for environmental considerations given that you can sort of determine what emissions will be.
or
Diffential Scanning Calorimetry. (DSC). This does not tell you what compounds are present but gives you heat content and percentage by weight as methane the combusitbles are. Quite usefull for modelling.
