Gelation in Oil well cement
Hi everyone Please help
I need to know the causes for gelation in oil well cement and how we can avoid it.

You need to define what you mean by gelation. If you mean thickening or setting then it is the high pressures and temperatures at certain depths in the oilwell. Avoiding it is acheived by the use of retarders.

Initial Bc is high but after some time say 10 -15 minutes it gets reduced, mill outlet temperature is 95-100 C only.

Hello Sundararaju,
I am a new member to this group. Regarding the query that about gelation in Oilwell cement its mainly because of the following reasons
a) Free lime content more than 0.5- 0.7 % in the clinker.
b) High Milling temperature
c) High Specific surface area
d) Impurity in gypsum used. the gypsum used should be free of contamination
You can make a labscale trial and find out the optimum tempr,blaine for OWC class G grinding.
