Dear Mr. Ted,

Our kiln obviously producing dusty clinker and we have high dust carried by secondary air and this obscure the flame. the kiln is exposed to Burning zone ring formations (at meter number 40 and 50)

kiln length 78 m

kiln feed AR is 1.4 and SR 2.75

high SR comes from silicious coal-ash.

Question: what is the reason for dusty clinker ?

dear emadissa,

Follow my experience in kiln operation, your kiln feed has high SR it cause dusty clinker.

Hello Emad,

Yes, high SR can cause dusty clinker due to a corresponding reduction in the amount of liquid phase present. Also a low AR promotes dusty clinker by reducing the liquid phase viscosity.High AR clinkers tend to nodulise better than low AR clinkers. So, if possible it would be advantageous to lower your SR to around 2.3 and increase your AR to 1.6.

High K2O, MgO and particularly SO3 will also produce dusty conditions by lowering the surface tension of the liquid phase. High liquid phase surface tension promotes nodule formation while low liquid surface tension pomotes fine clinker and dust formation.

Do you monitor the SO3 content of your hotmeal? What is the LSF, SO3, K2O and MgO of your clinker?

Regards,

Ted.
