Dear Sir

Yhnaks for your nice reply , generally problem of expansion is more in OPC , presently residue +45 mic is 10% so if we increase fineness upto 5% +45 mic ( say) than definately expansion will reduce and i am also doing experiment for this but with 5% residue heat of hydration will also increase ,so is there any suitable solution to compensate this increased heat of hydration

Hello Dilip,

Heat of hydration can be influenced by;-

  • Fineness of cement.
  • Cement C3A content.
  • Cement C3S content.
  • Mineral additive content (ie limestone, flyash, BFS etc)
  • Water/cement ratio
  • C3A/Gypsum ratio.
  • Chemical admixtures that accelerate or retard cement hydration.

So, if you really wanted to compensate for the higher heat of hydration of finer grinding, you would have to adjust one or more of the other factors accordingly. However this may not always be possible or acceptable either.

In addition, the change in heat of hydration as a result of the fineness change you propose may not be large enough to cause you any problems. You would have to do some tests to be sure.

Regards,

Ted.
