Peru’s booming construction sector--along with strong growth in government and financial services--continue to propel the Andean nation’s gross domestic product, which expanded by a surprisingly robust 6.38 per cnet in December.

During full-year 2009, Peru’s GDP expanded by 1.12 per cent, led by a 15.6 per cent increase in government services, while financial services increased 11.4 per cent and construction gained 6.1 per cent, the National Statistics Institute, or INEI, said Monday.
