Vietnam hopes to export 1Mt of cement this year, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, general director of the Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), has said.

After many years of shortage, there is a surplus now, he said. 
 
Therefore, it is essential to export some of it to develop the sector, he said. 
 
There are 97 cement plants in the country with a total capacity of 57.4Mt. 
 
A further 13, with a capacity of 11.7Mt, are expected to go on stream this year, he said, leaving a surplus of 2Mt.
