Honduras’ government is not presently interested in the possibility of Mexican cement company Cemex  building a plant in the Central American country, foreign service official Carlos Arturo Bueso told BNamericas.

While Cemex has expressed interest in the possibility of building a plant, cement demand in Honduras is presently covered by its three existing plants, one operated by  Holcim, another by Lafarge, and a third from a Japanese company, Bueso said.

But the government "does not want to compromise the existing companies’ operations," Bueso said.

Cemex was considering a US$64m-200m investment for a plant in the northern commercial sector of Honduras, previous reports indicated.
