California Portland Cement Company earns ENERGY STAR ® awar
On March 21, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded California Portland Cement Company (CPC) a 2007 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting our environment through energy efficiency. This is the third year in a row that CPC has been honored with a major ENERGY STAR award. CPC’s accomplishments were recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
An ENERGY STAR partner since 1996, CPC was honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency through investment in manufacturing upgrades that have resulted in energy reduction and its leadership in promoting energy efficiency at its facilities in the Western United States. In a company-wide effort, engineers successfully improved processes in manufacturing, electrical and lighting systems, mechanical systems and more. Reductions in energy usage have translated into an economic benefit of more than $3 million in the last three years. In the course of its work on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Program, CPC also cut annual electricity consumption at one plant alone by 8 percent or 14 million kilowatt-hours.
