Compact Power Holdings PLC said it has been awarded a EUR1.64m contract from cement company Italcementi SpA to design, supply and install a gasification plant at the Italian company’s cement plant in Salerno, southern Italy.

The UK-based renewable fuel and energy company said the plant will produce a fuel gas generated from waste material which will be fed into the cement plant, thus replacing the fossil fuels normally used there.

Compact Powers chief executive, John Acton commented, ’This will be a reference plant for the entire industry and will demonstrate the principle of converting waste to fuel gas for a wide range of industrial applications.’
