Ghacem Limited last week briefed a parliamentary select committee on Environment, Science and Technology delegation on the company’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) programme. The acting managing director of Ghacem, Mr. Graham Bell, disclosed that Ghacem was investing about ¢7 billion between 2005 and 2008 on HSE-related issues and that the investments would ensure Ghacem’s plants continued to comply with local and international standards as well as the company’s.
Ghacem, he said, was actively involved in installing dust filters, collectors and monitors in providing foliage cover around the plant. It is also teaming up with third parties such as Laminex and Western Casting to recycle the factory’s paper and metal wastes.
Other Ghacem executives present were Dr. George Dawson Ahmoah, Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director; Mr. Ernest Gbesemete, Acting Commercial Director; and Mr. David Jamieson, Tema Works Manager. (Ghanaian Chronicle).
