The Housing and Construction Industry subcommittee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) will discuss the prices of building materials in general and cement and steel in particular to formulate its recommendations for consideration by the government. The Chairman of the subcommittee, Munir Sultan, told Business Recorder that the committee has called a meeting on May 20 to take up the issue and discuss it at length. He said that the increasing trend in cement and steel prices have hit hard the construction industry. Getting a house has become out of the reach of the general public. 
 
He said that the committee would also discuss issues of getting land at discounted rate for initiating low cost housing schemes. He said that the committee would also discuss the freeze imposed on land in 1985 to 1997 to get practical suggestion and take up the matter with concerned Sindh government authorities to get it de-freezed. The committee will also discuss housing policy and take up members’ suggestions for including in new housing policy.
