The domestic cement deliveries in Switzerland’s cement industry increased by 7.9 per cent YoY to 4.268Mt in 2005, the local industry association Cemsuisse said.

The rise was attributed chiefly to the boom in the local building market and is the highest in the last 11 years, it added.  Switzerland’s cement sector registered a record-high result in 1994, when the cement deliveries totalled 4.37Mt.

For 2006, Cemsuisse expects a decline in the domestic cement deliveries of between three and five per cent and in annual terms.

Cement sales in Switzerland rose by seven per cent YoY to 3.955Mt in 2004.
