The government-owned National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB) has studied the potential for setting up of new cement projects in the North Eastern states, Industry Secretary A K Dua said yesterday.
The NCB has suggested that the greenfield cement projects be set up in the North East through the application of Geographical Information Systems and other advanced exploration techniques.
Opening a seminar on cement in New Delhi, Mr Dua said the NCB expected the cement demand to grow by 8.4 per cent to 9.8 per cent on annual basis for the next five to seven years. He asked the industry to utilise the research capabilities of the NCB which has several world renowned testing laboratories.
