FLSmidth has signed an approximately USD 210m contract for the supply of a new cement plant to privately-owned United Cement Company of Nigeria Ltd. (UNICEM).  

The complete cement plant with a capacity of 6250t cement clinker per 24 hours will be operational by the summer of 2007 near the port of Calabar, some 500 km east of Lagos, Nigeria.  

FLSmidth is to supply all the machinery and auxiliary equipment, and several FLSmidth companies and divisions are participating as subcontractors to the project. FLSmidth’s scope of supply ranges from an ATOX 50 raw mill, an ILC 3-support kiln system complete with preheater and SF Cross-bar cooler, two UMS cement mills with O-SEPA separator and two EV hammer crushers to raw material stores, silos, electrostatic precipitators and a complete quality and process control system, The contract also includes Pfister dosing equipment and a complete Ventomatic packing line. In addition, building design and training are included in the contract.  

FLSmidth will be constructing the plant in cooperation with Orascom Construction Industries (OCI), an international cement producer and construction contractor based in Egypt with whom FLSmidth has already successfully undertaken similar projects in Algeria and Libya.  

The customer, United Cement Company of Nigeria Ltd., is a partnership between Flour Mills of Nigeria, one of the country’s leading cement importers, and Egyptian Cement Company, itself a joint venture between OCI and Holcim.
