The government of Tanzania has underlined its support to Dangote Cement to ensure the timely completion of its cement plant in the East African country.

During a tour of Dangote’s Obajana cement factory in Nigeria, Salma Rashid Kikwete, wife of the president of Tanzania, expressed appreciation to the Dangote Group for extending is pan-Africa presence to the country.

Dangote is constructing a 1.5Mta cement plant in Mtwara, southeastern Tanzania, which is expected to be completed next year. The new plant forms part of the group’s ambitious expansion drive to have a minimum of 50Mta cement capacity in Africa by the second half of 2014.

Speaking to local press, the First Lady of Tanzania said: "The decision of Alhaji Dangote to build cement in African countries is commendable. We thank him for bringing cement plant to Tanzania which is producing below domestic demand," she said. (Source: All Africa press)
