The dispatches of imported raw materials for the cement industry from Chittagong Port of Bangladesh to cement plants resumed on 12 January after the Bangladesh River Transport Workers’ Federation (BRTWF) had called off their strike. Chittagong Port Authority said the clinker unloading activities at Chittagong Port and 16 private jetties of Karnaphuli River resumed on Saturday.
According to BRTWF, workers have called off the nationwide strike and returned to work as authorities agreed to reorganise their wage structure.
An indefinite strike by the BRTWF had disrupted the transport of imported clinker from Chittagong Port to cement plants through inland rivers. As result, the offloading of 12 foreign-flag vessels carrying 466,651t of clinker was affected.
