Turkish company Polimeks Insaat Taahhüt ve San Tic AS has inaugurated its Lepab Cement Factory which is set to help meet growing domestic demand due to the construction boom in Turkmenistan.
The opening ceremony, according to reports in the Turkish press, was held in the presence of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and President Viktor Yanukovich of Ukraine.
The cement works is located in the Turkmenabad region, close to the Uzbekistan and Afghanistan border. The facility has a cement production capacity of 1Mta including 3000tpd clinker according to Polimeks’ website. The plant will produce Portland cement, oil well cement and sulphate-resistant cement.
In October 2011, Polimeks launched a 1Mta plant in the west of Turkmenistan, in Jebel in the Balkan region.
The building materials and cement industry is playing a key part in Turkmenistan’s future development. As a result, cement demand is expected to enter a stage of double-digit growth figures from an expected 2.35Mt in 2012.
