Lafarge Pakistan and the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a health and safety training and awareness initiative.
Mr Amr Reda, CEO of Lafarge Pakistan said in a statement: “The cement industry operates in an environment with multiple types of hazards, making it our priority to ensure the safety of all people working directly and indirectly in it.”
The APCMA is encouraging all its members to study and apply these safety standards and to also take initiatives to share the best practices across their organizations.
Mr Aizaz Seikh, CEO of Pakistan-based cement producer Kohat Cement and Chairman of the APCMA, said: “APCMA is thankful to Lafarge Pakistan for coming forward with the idea and we are happy to embrace this initiative. The proposal was unanimously approved by the council and the APCMA looks forward to further initiatives under this MoU.”
Mr Reda added: “We are happy to share our learnings and best practices with other companies through the platform of APCMA. As part of our long-term commitment to Health & Safety, Lafarge Pakistan will continue to impart knowledge and awareness on this subject to other industrial establishments in Pakistan.” A recent case study was a recent visit by a delegation from Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), headed by its CEO, to Lafarge’s production facilities in Kallar Kahar to get a better understanding of Lafarges’ Health and Safety processes and standards.
