Cimpor plans to increase its grinding capacity in Mozambique by 220,000tpa through its local subsidiary Cimentos de Moçambique.
In the statement published by Portuguese regulator CMVM, the group said that the increased milling capacity was a result of a rental contract on a mill located near the Matola plant.
The contract, which is now in operation, alongside increased production capacity will make it possible to manufacture new products.
The Mozambique cement market is dominated by Cimentos de Moçambique. In anticipation of increased demand, it is investing heavily in new equipment to expand capacity and efficiency. As well as doubling bagging capacity at the Nacala-Porto works and opening a new mill at Matola in September 2011, work is currently underway on a new kiln line at its grinding unit in Dondo, where feasibility studies have also taken place into building a new clinker plant next door.
