Sales in Indonesia increased by 7.9 per cent in October, having experienced slowing growth in recent months.

Data from the Indonesian Cement Association shows October sales reached 5.58Mt, rebounding from 5.3 per cent growth in the previous month.

The October growth rate was mainly attributed to increased demand from islands other than Java, with a significant rise in consumption registered in Sumatra particularly. Indonesia's second most populous island bought 1.15Mt of cement. Java continues to be the largest consuming island, with sales during October reaching 3.2Mt.

In the January-October 2013 period, cement sales in Indonesia rose 5.8 per cent to 47.2Mt.
