Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) produced 7.34Mt of cement in the first five months of this year, rising 5.1 per cent from a year ago and fulfilling 39 per cent of the whole-year target.

The corporation’s clinker output, however, fell by three per cent YoY to 6.63Mt in the period, meeting 38.4 per cent of the full-year target.

In May, Vicem’s cement output rose by 6.3 per cent YoY to 1.73Mt, while the corporation’s clinker output was 1.39Mt, equal to the figure of May 2013.

In the first five months, Vicem’s total clinker and cement sales rose by 3.4 per cent YoY to 9.28Mt. Of the total, 7.53Mt of cement and clinker were sold in the domestic market, down 9.6 per cent YoY, and 1.72Mt were exported, up 180 per cent.

As of May 31, Vicem posted 810,000t of cement and clinker inventory, including 500,000t of clinker.
