Tunisia: Carthage Cement cuts cement price

In the past few days, Carthage Cement has lowered the price of cement by TND6/t for bagged cement and TND10/t for bulk. For instance, a bag of OPC will now cost TND141,640/t while its bulk equivalent will cost 122,500/t. The step comes as the Tunisian government is gradually removing its subsidies in the energy sector.

Mostafa Hamrouni, president of the national Chamber of Cement Manufacturers said that "the professionals of cement industry and regulators exert the effort required to control cement prices.” He highlighted that, despite higher production costs, cement companies "are willing to keep prices at a level that preserves the consumer's purchasing power."

Cement companies currently sell cement between TND109.83 and TND114 (excluding tax) to wholesalers while to in the reinforced concrete market, the price ranges between TND122.81 and TND126 (excluding tax).
