State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) said it sold about 3.1Mt of cement and clinker in the first two months of this year, rising 6.7 per cent from a year ago and fulfilling 99.1 per cent of the target.

Of the volume, 2.49Mt of cement and clinker were sold in domestic market, up 15.3 per cent YoY and 610,000t were exported, down 18 per cent.

In the first two months, Vicem produced 2.81Mt clinker and 2.31Mt of cement, rising 11.3 per cent and 17.9 per cent YoY.

As of 28 February 2015, Vicem had 1.66Mt of cement and clinker inventory, including 1.35Mt of clinker, equivalent to 27 days of production.

Vicem targets to produce 1.46Mt of clinker and 1.91Mt of cement in March. The corporation also aims to sell 2.26Mt of cement and clinker in March.

Last year, Vicem’s clinker production edged up 0.7 per cent YoY to 16.5Mt, while its cement output rose 10.3 per cent to 18.46Mt.
