The price of a 50kg bag of cement varies from XAF3000 (US$5.01) to XAF6000 across the six capitals of Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa (UEMOA) states.
In Senegal’s capital, Dakar, the price is XOF3000, one of the lowest in the west African sub-region.
Meanwhile, in Lomé (Togo) it is XOF4050 and in Cotonou, Benin, 50kg of cement costs XOF4200.
Consumers in Bamako, Mali, pay XOF4500 while their counterparts in Yaoundé, Cameroon, part with XOF4400-4600.
Prices are markedly higher in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) where outlets charge XOF5750-6000. In Yamoussoukro, Côte d’ Ivoire, the price is somewhat lower at XOF5500, similar to what is charged in Port Gentil, Gabon, but the country has faced a cement shortage since March due to the implementation of major infrastructure projects, according to the government.
